Tips on how to save the environment

We are all responsible for the state of the environment. And at the same time, each of us can help at least a little with its protection. We are talking about new habits that we can incorporate into the running of our households. It takes a little more effort in the beginning, but in the end, having an eco-friendly household and taking sustainability into account is no rocket science.

However, we can also do our bit to treat our planet more gently. Try to reduce your carbon footprint, i.e. the impact of your activities on the environment. Here are some tips:

  1. Save paper

Saving the environment can start with paper. It will help in the office if you do not print unnecessary documents and use double-sided printing.

Apart from the measures in the office, it is advisable to stick information on your mailbox that you do not wish to receive printed advertising leaflets. If you are interested, you can view them online. If you have small children, buy recycled notebooks instead, and a small step, but no less important from a long-term perspective, will be to cancel sending a paper bank statement and replace it with an electronic one.

  1. Don't waste electricity

This tip may already sound like a tired cliché, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still a current recommendation that you shouldn't underestimate. A TV set unnecessarily turned on that no one is watching, a home theater turned on, a radio without any listeners and lit rooms in which no one is staying subtly increase electricity bills and deplete natural resources.

So change these habits and use an automatic shutdown timer. When buying equipment, look at the energy labels and it is worth considering buying more energy-efficient LED bulbs.

  1. Save water

When trying to save nature, water consumption should not go unnoticed either. Prioritize showering before bathing and do not let the water run when brushing your teeth. In the final calculation, it is hundreds of liters of water that were used completely unnecessarily.

Don't leave aside the waste of water for washing and dishwashing. While it is not recommended to run small amounts of laundry during washing, this is not the case with a half-empty dishwasher. Even with an empty dishwasher, water savings are higher than if you had to wash used dishes by hand.

  1. Sort waste

The very basis of an ecological household is waste sorting. Having a separate container for each type of waste should be a matter of course. Nowadays, compost waste is also very much sorted out, for which cities also set up separate containers, or provide citizens with special containers for this type of waste.

  1. Carry your own bottle with you

The most ideal is when you don't keep buying new PET bottles, but use your own. There are many different types of bottles on the market today, which are made of recycled plastic, glass or enamel. Investing in one such high-quality bottle not only contributes to the protection of the environment, but also saves your wallet.

  1. Use your own bags for shopping

Many people have adopted this habit, but there are still those who buy new plastic bags every time they shop. No ecological household can do without a knitted bag or mesh, because using it is much more practical and gentler than buying plastic ones. When you find yourself in a situation where you have to buy a bag after all, choose the paper variant.

  1. Drive considerately

If you prefer the comfort of a car to the lower price and smaller carbon footprint of public transport on your next trip, you can still do something useful for your wallet and the environment behind the wheel. It's enough if you learn to drive more carefully.

In addition to checking tire pressure, other factors that increase consumption should not be forgotten before driving. Aren't the things you're transporting unnecessarily burdening your vehicle?

Last but not least, the consumption depends on the driving style. You have to pay attention especially to unnecessarily sharp accelerations or driving in too low a gear at higher speeds.
